Fiber-coupled broadband NIR SLED Light source

FJORD is the broadband SLED light source designed and engineered by Pyroistech to provide a customized response in the NIR to the most demanding user applications. A SLED is also called an SLD or super-luminescent diode and its operation is based on amplified spontaneous emission (ASE), also called superluminescence.

There is the possibility of combining up to a maximum of 8 modules to choose from among a wide variety of high-power SLEDs, also allowing the option of adding an additional module to control the power of each of the SLEDs independently. Its compact, silent and robust design allows it to be integrated into any type of application, covering a wide range of possibilities ranging from optical laboratories, testing of optical fibers, interrogation of Bragg networks, tomography, or sensors for the industry, among others.

Application examples SLED light source

LPFG inscription monitoring

The interrogation of the LPFG is carried out using a wide spectrum FJORD source as excitation at the input of the fiber and measuring the optical power at the output by means of an optical spectrum analyzer. The latter makes it possible to measure the location of the resonance wavelength and the attenuation band.

Measure of ºBrix

We show a setup with a broad spectrum FJORD source for the interrogation of a fiber optic refractometer that allows to measure ºBrix. The refractometer consists of a type D fiber optic with indium tin oxide (ITO) coating.
